Senior Citizens Travel Tips
Senior citizens will experience many challenges with today’s new travel rules and restrictions – especially at Holiday times. Our older generation should dress very comfortably for their journey and be prepared to remove shoes, belts, jewelery, and anything else of a metal or magnetic identity. As difficult as it may be…our elderly group will need to exhibit patience and, to this end, should make every effort ot arrive as early as possible at the airport to allow for extra time necessary at the ticketing area as well the security zone. For those seniors that are physically challenged – have a friend or relative accompany you to the airport. They can stand in line for you while you rest or use the facilities. It is really essential that during these busiest of times – younger people exhibit their patience and kindness toward the older generation – they might need your help for directions or an arm to lean on…make sure that you are there for them.
Probably the most important information that can be passed on to that older generation is regarding seniors medications. This group of essential little bottles and jars can create the most stressful moments in the trip for a senior citizen. The following point need to be followed TO THE LETTER in order to avoid confiscation or confrontation with a security guard who usually is unaware of the true importance of these containers;
- the name[s] on the containers [not on the envelope or the packaging but affixed solidly to the actual container] must match your name on the prescription and the airline ticket.
- be certain that you carry your medication[s] with you…not in your suitcase.
